Kangaroo Self Storage makes its first move into the North East of England as the business announces that it has acquired a site in Sunderland.

The self-storage company has bought a 39,700 sq ft former retail warehouse on the edge of the Hylton Retail Park off Wessington Way in Sunderland. The site was acquired for an undisclosed sum.

The site provides a repurposed retail space that once housed Carpet Right, Harveys, and HSS Hire. The warehouse will be transformed into a multipurpose storage centre providing more than 60,000 square feet of lettable space. The new storage facility will support the self-storage needs of students, households, and commercial customers. There will also be a business hub providing offices and meeting rooms.

Gareth Dougherty, Acquisitions Manager at Kangaroo Self Storage, said, “As an edge of city site, Wessington Way is a perfect location. The road is a key arterial route into Sunderland, and the site is at a major roundabout at the junction of Hylton Retail Park, which is fast becoming the city’s major retail destination. It’s a very visible site with easy access and ample parking.

“Sunderland provides a perfect introduction to the North East of England as the business looks to broaden its reach across the UK.”

Kangaroo Self Storage has ten operational facilities across the North West of England and Scotland. The site in Sunderland is scheduled to open later this year.
